Sometimes you have to look pretty hard to see this shy giant. In the heat of summer they like to bed down in the cool shade of the woods. Keep a sharp eye out for their ears or antlers as they flick away pesky flies.

The name "moose" (Alces alces) is derived from an Algonkian word meaning "eater of twigs". Their diet consists primarily of tender twigs from shrubs and trees, but they favour the leaves and tubers of water plants. Highly prized as a game animal, they are the largest members of the deer family.
