We start at an exhibit, in the Creighton Environmental Centre, that features the Piping Plover (Charadrius melodus). The entire Canadian population of these small sand coloured shorebirds was designated as Threatened in April 1978 by the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada (COSEWIC). Despite concerted conservation efforts here and elsewhere in North America, the numbers of this species remain low.
